BC CULTURE MINISTER MEETS VICTORIA ARTS REPS

Victoria – On Monday, July 15th, new BC Minister for Community, Sport and Cultural Development, Coralee Oakes, attended a reception hosted by ProArt for about 80 people, representatives of 30 Victoria area arts organisations. Minister Oakes gave a short speech, and offered the crowd an anecdote about how her new position combined her educational background of a diploma in arts and a degree in political science. She reiterated that the current BC Arts Council funding is the highest in its history. After the speech, she took time to meet briefly with representatives from each of of the organisations in attendance.

  1. Thanks to Peter and Ivan for coordinating this event. The Minister seemed to be genuinely pleased with the opportunity to meet members of the Victoria arts community.
