B.C. government provides new grants for arts activities and infrastructure

VICTORIA – Through two newly created programs, BC Creative Communities and BC Creative Spaces, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development will offer non-profit arts and cultural organizations, First Nations band councils and friendship centres in B.C.  $2.384 million in grants for 118 projects,  Minister Bill Bennett announced on April 13.

BC Creative Spaces will provide $1.25 million for 37 projects for community arts infrastructure,  going for projects such as museum and studio construction, art centre renovations and arts equipment, including stage lighting and sound systems.

BC Creative Communities approved 81 projects for  $1.134 million in grants to  arts and culture organizations for local creative activities. Funding go towards supporting community celebrations, events and cultural mapping/planning projects to maximize economic and social benefits from the arts.
