The Belfry Theatre, Victoria BC is seeking a:
Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Assistant
Based in Victoria, BC this is a new full time term position. Anticipated employment period is 46 weeks with potential for extension to fulltime permanent.
The position is intended for an individual seeking experience in order to build a career in the arts in either Development or Marketing.
The Belfry Theatre is the largest professional theatre company in Victoria BC. Producing five to six productions per season and presenting four or more other productions our theatre remains busy twelve months a year. The company focuses its work on contemporary drama, largely from the Canadian cannon and provides support to a number of other performing arts groups in Victoria. In addition to the shows produced or presented, the Belfry has an active play development focus and is engaged in a variety of outreach and education programs. Position start Date: Early January 2013
Salary: $35,000 – $39,000 per annum based on experience and education.
The successful candidate will be eligible to join the Belfry’s benefit plan which includes extended health and dental as well as a group RRSP after completing three months of employment.
The position is subject to a 60 day probationary period.
The Assistant reports jointly to the Managers in Marketing & Development.
Write copy for sales brochures, media releases, blog posts, web articles, video blogs, social networks (Facebook; Twitter), podcasts, e-newsletters, etc.
Manage specific mail-outs and e-news campaigns
Assist with outreach and audience engagement activities
Conduct prospect research for corporate, foundation and government funding sources; track outgoing requests, incoming responses, follow-up correspondence
Coordinate, track and ensure the fulfillment of all sponsor and donor benefits
Assist in the planning and coordination of fundraising events
Prepare fundraising proposals and assist in the writing of grant applications
Assist the Marketing and Development managers as required. Perform related duties as assigned.
A minimum of one year’s experience in a professional arts organization in administration, marketing or fundraising
Excellent writing ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong grammatical and proofreading skills
Ability to assess priorities and multi-task
Ability to exercise creativity, initiative and good judgment
Positive attitude and motivated work ethic
Computer proficiency in a Mac environment
